The Noble County Board of Developmental Disabilities is the primary funder of supports for people with developmental disabilities in Noble County and is accredited by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. Accreditation is the result of a comprehensive state review in which all areas of county board operations are reviewed with an emphasis on the satisfaction of the people who are served by the Board.
The state of Ohio created County Boards of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in 1967 with the purpose of providing the supports people with developmental disabilities needed. In 2009, self-advocates from across Ohio were successful in eliminating the term “mental retardation” from the names of all county boards and the state department. That year, the local board became the Noble County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities oversees the 88 county boards, which receive local, state and federal funding to accomplish their purpose.

A seven-member board of directors governs the Noble County Board of DD. Five members are appointed by the County Commissioners and two appointed by the Probate Judge. By law, at least three of the board members must be family members of people who receive, or are eligible to receive, supports. Board members are volunteers and receive no compensation.
